Emotional and physical well-being are more significant to Americans than career and money, according to a survey by a national trade association of health clubs. When 1,400 individuals were asked to rank a variety of facets of life as necessary or significant, 97 percent picked psychological well-being and 96 percent chosen physical health, but only 78 percent and 75 percent, respectively, chosen career and cash.

Just three percent of American adults follow a healthy lifestyle — not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, eating five or more fruits and veggies every day, and being busy. That is what researchers at Michigan State University at East Lansing concluded after analyzing the lifestyle habits of 153,000 people.

This past year, over 276 million individuals visited North America’s National Parks but just 10 percent ventured over a mile in their cars, according to figures compiled by Austin-Lehman Adventures, a company that arranges guided adventure holidays. Maybe we are perplexing parks with parking lots.

Eating for Health
Eating a nutrient-dense diet with 10 to 25 percent fewer calories than the average could radically reduce the risk for diseases related to aging. A six-year study demonstrated that middle-aged individuals ingesting 1,100 into 1,950 calories per day, comprising 26 percent protein, 28 percent fat, and 46 percent complex carbohydrates, had blood-pressure levels similar to 10-year-olds and moderate levels of 20-year-olds.

The Organic Plant Advantage
You may get around 60 percent more antioxidants out of several fruits and veggies by eating organically grown varieties. University of California, Davis researchers found that organic tomatoes, corn, and Marionberries create considerably higher levels of antioxidant chemicals when they must fend for themselves from insects. Pesticides decrease the crops’ antioxidant-producing skills.

Walk or Run?
