What is the Conference all about?

The Conference will offer great opportunities for skill-building, information-sharing, and professional networking, especially for and among translators and interpreters of legal-related materials. View the Conference Sessions and Speakers.

Who are the organizers of this Conference?

TRADULÍNGUAS, a Portuguese translation company with a long and successful record of translator's training (including three other international translation Conferences) is the main organizer of this Conference. The Organizing Team is also composed by professional translators, lawyers, and scholars with a wide experience in the translation and interpreting practicing and teaching. Some of the Organizers will also be presenting at the Conference.

What will be the topics presented/discussed at the Conference?

ALL topics in this Conference will be related to legal translation.

Who are the speakers at this Conference?

All sessions will be presented by lawyers and other leading legal translation professionals with extensive experience in translation.

What are the working languages of the Conference?

The Conference Sessions will be delivered in English, Portuguese, French, Spanish. Simultaneous interpretation will not be provided.

Where can I find the Conference Schedule and Program?

It will be available very soon.

Why should I attend this Conference?

If you are an experienced translator and interpreter working with legal subjects, there will be plenty for you to see, learn, and discuss. And, if you are just starting in this field of specialization, you will gain valuable information about your professions and many specialized fields of knowledge in this highly-requested segment of the language industry.

Can you recommend what sessions I should attend?

In one word? ALL of them. Because there will be parallel sessions, you'll be forced to choose some sessions and not to attend others. Which ones in particular, that depends on your needs and interests as a language professional. However, keep in mind that your Conference CD-ROM will include the presentations and handouts from most, if not all, of the sessions in the Conference.

What if there are last-minute changes to the Conference?

The Organizers will do their best to keep the Program/Schedule unchanged and under very tight control. Sessions will start and finish on time! Last-minute changes will be announced live to all attendees and online by Twitter.

Will I receive a Certificate of Attendance?

Yes, you will. A Certificate of Attendance documenting the total number of hours and the topics of the Conference will be included in your portfolio at registration. If you lose or misplace your Certificate of Attendance during the Conference, it will NOT be replaced onsite. After the Conference, reprint and mailing of your personal Certificate of Attendance will be available for 15,00 €.

Will you publish the Conference Proceedings?

All Conference participants will receive a CD-ROM (with ISBN) containing the speakers biographies and presentations and other support materials in PDF format (if given by speakers for publication) and sponsor/exhibitor descriptions.

Do I need to sign up for some Conference sessions ahead of time?
What if I want to attend more than one session in a given time period?

No. Each session will be placed in a room that should accommodate the interest in the topic. If you are interested in more than one session in a given time slot, keep in mind that your Conference CD-ROM will include the presentations and handouts from most, if not all, of the sessions in the Conference.

Can I take my notebook computer to the Conference venue?

Yes, you can. But, keep in mind that you will be distracted and loose a good deal of the presentations. If you are interested in more than one session in a given time slot, keep in mind that your Conference CD-ROM will include the presentations and handouts from most, if not all, of the sessions in the Conference. To check your Email, attendees will have access to a computer room with Internet connection and can use the campus Wi-Fi network.

Can I market my services at the Conference?

Participants (individual and corporate) are strongly encouraged to market their services by displaying their résumés, brochures, and business cards (just bring enough for everybody) and to actively network with owners and managers of participating language services companies and other Conference participants.

Can I attend the Conference for one day only?

Individual day passes are NOT available. The registration price is the same to attend any portion of the Conference. Refer to the Registration Information.

Where will the Conference take place?

The Conference will be hosted by the prestigious Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (Universidade Nova), home to one of the most sought-after translation courses in Portugal. Join us there on 07 and 08 October, 2011.

Can I pay for my registration using somebody else's bank or PayPal account?

Yes, you can! Naturally, the account holder (e.g., employer, parent, spouse, friend, etc.) will have to grant you authorization to do so. Your payment using somebody else's bank account / credit card assumes that such authorization has been properly granted.

Do I have to register in advance or can I register on-site?

Do I have to wear some special clothing for the Conference?

The dress code for the entire Conference is From Informal to Business Casual. While we'll be here to learn, and not to pick on your clothes, hats, sneakers, baggy or ripped clothing, sweatpants or athletic attire may not be your best choices...

Will the weather be nice in Lisbon, in May?
