Entry Regulations and Visas Citizens from outside the European Union need a valid passport, and depending on their citizenship, a visa MAY be required.

Weather in Lisbon Lisbon has a pleasant climate throughout the year. In May, the weather is extremely mild with temperatures between 15 ºC (59 ºF) and 24 ºC (75 ºF) and 0,18 cm (0.07 in) of rain. An up-to-date 10-day forecast is available on the Web site of

Set your watch right Between 01 UTC of 28 March 2010 and 01 UTC 31 October 2010 the time In Portugal will be UTC+1. If you're coming from the UK, your watch is OK. If you're coming from central Europe (CET) set your watch 1 hour behind. If you're coming from the US (EST), set your watch 5 hours ahead. Or, just ask anybody: Que horas são, por favor? Currency and Banking The Portuguese currency is the Euro. For a currency converter, please see

If you're travelling from a non-Euro country, we recommend that you get some cash (euros) at any ATM/cash machine (named MULTIBANCO) available at the airport / train station and just about everywhere around the city. Most cash machines accept VISA, PLUS, CIRCUS and other major cards. Bank services are available at the airport, throughout the city and there are several close to the Conference venue. Banks are open from 08:30 to 15:00 (3 pm) with no lunchtime closing. NOTE: credit and debit cards or foreign currency are NOT accepted on board public transportation vehicles, ticket booths/machines or at the Conference Venue.
Phone calls The country code for international phone calls to Portugal is 351. For direct international calls from Portugal dial: 00 + (country code) + (area code) + (phone number). Portuguese mobile numbers start by 91, 93, 96 and 922.
Ground Transportation to/from the Lisbon Airport and Hotel Shuttle Service The
AEROBUS and the
AEROSHUTTLE offer an easy way to travel from/to the airport and the major underground stations and hotels in Lisbon. Taxis are also readily available. A ride from the airport to the Conference Venue will cost, approximately, 10 to 13 euros.
Buses Most bus stops have a transportation network map. Tickets are bought from the driver and cost (at the time this page was published) 1.40 € per trip. Other tickets are also available. For further information, please visit:

Underground / Subway / Metro The Lisbon underground runs 6:30 am to 1:00 am and offers the quickest way to get around the city. Single tickets cost 0,80 € and 1,10 €, respectively and may be purchased from the station's ticket office or automatic vending machines at the stations halls. For further information, please visit:

Emergency For Medical Emergency, Fire and Police, dial 112 from any land or mobile phone. As in any other major city, watch out for pickpockets, specially in the subway and crowded downtown areas; you may walk around with photocopies of your personal documents.
