Weather
Lisbon has a pleasant climate throughout the year. In October the weather is mild with temperatures between 14 ºC (57 ºF) and 24 ºC (75 ºF) and 11 days with rain. An up-to-date forecast is available on the Web site of Portugal's Meteorological Institute.

Set your watch right
Between 01 UTC of 30 March 2008 and 01 UTC 26 October the time In Portugal will be UTC+1. If you're coming from the UK, your watch is OK. If you're coming from central Europe (CET) set your watch 1 hour behind. If you're coming from the US (EST), set your watch 5 hours ahead. Or, just ask anybody: Que horas são, por favor? The correct time in Lisbon can be checked on the Web site of the Astronomy Observatory of Lisbon.

Currency and Banking
The Portuguese currency is the Euro. For a currency converter, please see this link. If you're travelling from a non-Euro country, we recommend that you get some cash (euros) at any ATM/cash machine (named MULTIBANCO) available at the airport / train station and just about everywhere around the city. Most cash machines accept VISA, PLUS, CIRCUS and other major cards. Bank services are available at the airport, throughout the city and there are several close to the Conference venue. Banks are open from 08:30 to 15:00 (3 pm) with no lunchtime closing. NOTE: credit and debit cards or foreign currency are NOT accepted on board public transportation vehicles, ticket booths/machines or at the Conference Venue.

Phone calls
The country code for international phone calls to Portugal is 351. For direct international calls from Portugal dial: 00 + (country code) + (area code) + (phone number). Portuguese mobile numbers start by 91, 93, 96 and 922.

Ground Transportation to/from the Airport
and Hotel Shuttle Service

The AEROBUS and the AEROSHUTTLE offer an easy way to travel from/to the airport and the major underground stations and hotels in Lisbon.

Buses
Most bus stops have a transportation network map. Tickets are bought from the driver and cost €1.40 per trip. Other tickets are also available. For further information, please visit: www.carris.pt.

Underground / Subway / Metro
The Lisbon underground runs 6:30 am to 1:00 am and offers the quickest way to get around the city. Single and return tickets cost €0,80 and €1,45, respectively and may be purchased from the station's ticket office or automatic vending machines at the stations halls. For further information, please visit: www.metrolisboa.pt.
